Tropentag 2026 brings together researchers, policymakers, practitioners and development partners to explore how agriculture and natural resource management can contribute to more resilient and sustainable futures. Under the theme ‘Towards multi-functional agro-ecosystems: Promoting climate-resilient futures’, the conference will examine how agrifood systems can respond to climate change while supporting food and nutrition security, biodiversity, healthy ecosystems and sustainable livelihoods.Â
These priorities are central to CGIAR’s work and to the CGIAR Multifunctional Landscapes Science Program (MFL). MFL places landscapes at the centre of agrifood-systems transformation, recognising that decisions about food production, water, biodiversity, restoration, governance, markets and investment are deeply connected. The Program works with communities, governments, researchers, civil society and private-sector partners to manage trade-offs, build synergies and develop solutions that deliver benefits for people and nature.Â
At Tropentag, CGIAR scientists and partners will contribute evidence, approaches and practical tools spanning multifunctional landscape planning, climate adaptation, restoration, livestock, gender equality, crop improvement, water management, food systems, digital innovation and sustainable finance.Â

Towards Multifunctional Landscapes and Resilient Communities: The Process, Opportunities and Challenges
Led by CGIAR MFL, this workshop will bring together researchers, policymakers, practitioners and landscape partners to examine what enables or constrains multifunctional landscape approaches. Discussions will focus on the governance, finance, land tenure, monitoring, inclusion and partnerships required to move integrated landscape approaches from concept to implementation and scale.Â
